How Does Business Success Equate to Landing an F-16 on a Air-Carrier?
The big question IS, what are YOU paying attention to and what are you blocking out? We tend to 'bias' our attention according to our past experiences and what we are looking for. Our memories, our beliefs, our values, our attitudes and more will determine what you focus on. What we focus on will in turn determine our reality - our view of life.
This explains why two people can have totally different opinion or view about a situation or event. Have you ever met someone and really liked them and then heard from someone else about what a jerk they were?
Your past influences will determine what you see in life, or what you look for. Think of your filters like a web search engine, where what you put in as search criteria is what you will get back. So if you type in "losing" or "I can't win", then guess what? Your results are going to be made of data to support this. Therefore what you perceive of your experience is a projection of what you are looking for.
Looking back at my own volleyball career I believe that I was looking for experiences to support my belief that "I had to do it alone" or "that I couldn't rely on the support of others". As a result, I rejected or didn't even notice the support that I did get. I was focused on all the acts and words that concurred with the belief that I was not supported.
